2021 Closure for Maitenance

From January 25, 2021 the Mount Hot Pools will be closed for planned renewals and maintenance.

It is the Hot Pools quietest time of year (43% less than peak times), with most visitors heading to the beach instead of soaking in hot pools, so it’s the ideal time to undertake important maintenance that requires the operating system to be off and all pools to be emptied for an extended period.

It’s also necessary to undertake the work at this time as there has been leaks discovered in the pipe work and the risk of leaving these is too high. Replacing the underground pipes now (as they have been laid on incorrect substrate pre-Bay Venues ownership) will ensure we continue to respect the natural resources we draw from to fill and heat the pools. It also mitigates the risk of further leaks, more water loss and potential breach of our resource consent, which could lead to colder pools in the winter months when the Mount Hot Pools are at their busiest.

The Mount Hot Pools will be closed for approximately ten weeks and should be re-opening from Thursday, April 1, 2021 just in time for the Easter long weekend and ahead of the April school holidays.

What Updates Are Happening in this Time?

  • Planned renewals and maintenance to the plant room, bore pump and pools
  • Upgrade to the external entrance appearance
  • Underground pipe replacement work to fix leaks
  • New shade sail over a seated section of the active pool
  • New poolside furniture
  • Resurfacing the children’s pool

While in summer the Mount Hot Pools is quiet, we appreciate this is a busy time for Mount Maunganui. We will endeavor to schedule disruptive work after Waitangi weekend, when domestic tourists and locals are likely to be back at work and school.

Sneak Peek

Along with the essential maintenance work we are also taking this opportunity to update the external Mount Hot Pools façade to align the external appearance of this iconic facility with its reputation as a Mount Maunganui destination. Here is a sneak peek of an artist impression showing what the new façade may look like.
