Kia ora everyone,
We’re really missing our Mount Hot Pools community! Your ongoing support and care and all your messages and well wishes mean a lot to our team, so thank you! It’s been made clear over the past few months just how much this iconic venue means to our community, and we’re just as keen as you are to see the Mount Hot Pools back open again – if and when it is safe to do so. Right now, Mauao and the surrounding area, including the Mount Hot Pools, are still closed while experts carry out landslide risk assessments on the maunga.
Tauranga City Council and the Mauao Trust are working closely together to support the safe reopening of Mauao and experts are helping guide the next steps. Safety is the top priority. While that important work is happening, our crew is also busy behind the scenes, assessing our venue and site to get a clear picture of the damage and the scope of the work required.
We’re working closely with Tauranga City Council and will be inspecting all the pools and critical infrastructure, including the underground pipes and bore, so we know exactly what needs to be done if a safe reopening is possible.
This will help inform any future decisions.
We continue to keep in our thoughts the families directly affected by the Mauao landslide tragedy, as well as everyone who experienced it firsthand, those who responded, and all our local mana whenua, residents and businesses still feeling its impact. If you want more details or have questions, head to the council website linked below. Thanks again for your ongoing support, and we’ll keep you posted with updates as soon as we have more to share.
